Teenage boy in critical condition after shooting in Avondale

A teenage boy is in critical condition after a shooting in Avondale Monday, while the suspect left the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.

PHOENIX — A teenage boy is in critical condition Monday after being shot in Avondale.

Officers responded around 3:30 p.m. to a shooting in the area of Avondale Boulevard and McDowell Road, where a 16-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound, according to the Avondale Police Department.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, while the suspect reportedly left the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.

The boy has been identified but his name will not be released to the public, authorities said.

Canyon Breeze Elementary School, which is close by at Avondale and Encanto boulevards, was briefly placed under lockdown until police confirmed the suspect was not in the vicinity.

Detectives are handling the investigation. No other information was provided.

How about a description of the suspect and a description of the vehicle so the public can keep an eye out?
