Border Patrol agents save overdose suspect after he failed to yield in southern Arizona

PHOENIX — Border Patrol agents gave lifesaving help to a man who appeared to be suffering from a drug overdose on Sunday after failing to yield during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Agents responded to a call around 8 a.m. referencing a sedan that had picked up suspected immigrants near Douglas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a press release.

Authorities attempted to pull the driver over within minutes of the call but he failed to yield. The driver’s name hasn’t been released.

The sedan slowed down coming to a complete stop, and a man and woman fled the car, the release said. Authorities apprehended them and determined they were both U.S. citizens.

While agents discovered marijuana and fentanyl inside the vehicle, they said the driver seemed to be experiencing a drug overdose.

He was given Narcan after allegedly admitting he took several narcotic pills.

His condition improved and he was hospitalized for further evaluation.

The driver and passenger face charges for failure to yield and for possession of narcotics.

The case will be investigated by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
