Bicyclist suffers life-threatening injuries after running red light in Scottsdale

PHOENIX — A bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car early Wednesday in Scottsdale, police said.

The crash occurred just before 2 a.m. at 75th Street and Indian School Road and shut down the intersection for several hours.

The cyclist was riding southbound on 75th Street and continued through a red light at the intersection, where an eastbound car struck the rider, according to police.

The driver remained at the scene. Investigators said speed and impairment are not considered factors in the collision.

The Scottsdale Police Vehicle Crimes and Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene, closing Indian School Road for several hours. The roadway has since reopened.

Police reminded the public that bicyclists are legally required to obey all traffic laws and traffic control devices, including stop lights and stop signs, when using public roadways.
