2 arrested in connection with 2024 Glendale homicide

PHOENIX — Two people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with a 2024 Glendale homicide, police said.

The homicide case that led to the arrests of 33-year-old Maricela Alexis Bahschnitt and 35-year-old Jonathan Vazquez dates back to Nov. 11, 2024.

On that day, officers with the Glendale Police Department found the body of Grant Siefert lying in a retention basin in the northwest corner of 56th and Peoria avenues, according to court documents.

Siefert was shirtless and had 36 sharp force injuries, including 22 stab wounds, across his head, torso and arms, as well as marks on his neck and duct tape wrapped around his right wrist, court documents said.

He had been reported missing by his mother.

A tip to police help investigators track down Bahschnitt and Vazquez as their suspects.

They later tested DNA samples from under Siefert’s fingernail clippings. On July 2, police received confirmation that the DNA belonged to Bahschnitt, court documents said.

Bahschnitt and Vazquez were both booked on kidnapping and first-degree murder charges.
