Police ask for public’s help finding suspect in 2021 murder of Alisha Hale

The Phoenix Police Department released new surveillance video they hope can lead to a suspect in the 2021 murder of Alisha Hale.

PHOENIX — More than four years after Alisha Hale was murdered in south Phoenix, police are now asking for the public’s help finding the man who killed her.

Hale was found shot to death on June 3, 2021, in a secluded area near Interstate 10 and Baseline Road in south Phoenix, near the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa. A suspect has not been found.

On Wednesday, the Phoenix Police Department held a press conference and released new details in the case.

New details in murder of Alisha Hale

Hale was found wearing a black and white dress, which her family told police was not something she would normally wear.

Officers did not immediately notice any signs of trauma, but later saw that she had been shot.

They began canvassing the surrounding area for surveillance video.

Officers were able to obtain a video from the day before the murder that showed Hale arrive in the area in a silver truck, which police now say is either a 2005 or 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 or 2500.

The video shows Hale and an unidentified man both exit the truck. They have a short conversation before walking out of the camera’s view. About two minutes later, the man gets back into the truck and drives away.

Police did not have a license plate number for the truck and said the only identifying feature was a tow hitch on the rear bumper.

Police added that Hale lived in the Sunnyslope area in Phoenix and that it was unusual for her to be in the southern part of the city.

There is no hard evidence that shows that Hale knew her killer, the department said.

Phoenix Police Detective Kevin Ham recently took over the case and gave Hale’s case another look. He said the department is sending certain pieces of evidence back through the crime lab to be retested, but that alone won’t solve this case.

“Somebody knows this person, somebody knows this vehicle,” Ham said. “We’re seeking the public’s help and we need somebody to come forward.”

This case has been difficult for the department to solve, with Ham describing it as a 1,000-piece puzzle that they only have a few pieces of.

However, the department is determined to find out who killed Hale.

“Alisha deserves the justice, her family deserves the justice and we’re going to do whatever we can,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Brian Bower said.

Who killed Alisha Hale?

Police did not have much of a description of the suspect, as they said the surveillance video did not provide a good picture of him. They believe he is between 5’9″ and 6 feet tall, but did not provide any other identifying details about him.

The department is hoping that the pictures of the truck will help jog someone’s memory and lead them to the suspect.

“There are events that happen in our lives that just leave an impression,” Ham said. “And even the littlest detail becomes a memory jogger.”

As for the suspect, police had a message for him.

“Come forward, tell us your story,” Ham said. “We know what happened, but we don’t know why it happened and I think that’s an important question.”

A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case.
