PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division on Monday announced the addition of four more specialty license plates.

Drivers can now choose from the Arizona 4-H, Arizona education, Congenital Heart Defect Awareness and Thunderbirds Charities plates.

Specialty plates typically cost $25 per year, with $17 going to the designated charity or nonprofit.

“It’s a really good opportunity for the charitable organizations to get awareness on the roads,” Bill Lamoreaux, spokesman for MVD, told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

The Arizona 4-H plate is available to anyone and is meant for the next generation of investors, entrepreneurs and community leaders.

The Arizona education plate is also available for anyone and goes to a special fund that provides scholarships and grants to teachers and students.

Money from the specialty plate for Congenital Heart Defect Awareness is awarded to Phoenix Children’s heart center for critical research, education and community programs to help children born with congenital heart defects to live longer, healthier lives.

Finally, the Thunderbirds Charities will help children and families improve their quality of life in metro Phoenix.

Specialty plates have been around in Arizona since 1989 and can be ordered online.

The state now offers more than 90 options. Sales for the plates brought in about $11 million during fiscal year 2021.
