PHOENIX — The Arizona Humane Society will be able to prepare hundreds of shelter pets to find their forever homes thanks to a $75,000 grant from PetSmart Charities, the nonprofit announced.

The grant will be used to provide more than 770 homeless pets with spay/neuter surgeries, updated vaccinations and microchips needed for adoption, the Arizona Humane Society said in a press release Wednesday.

“We are so thankful for the generous support of PetSmart Charities to allow us to be able to help even more homeless pets in our community get a second chance at a great life,” Jane Clark, AHS director of pet placement, said in the release.

“Not only will hundreds of pets be helped through this incredible gift but it also allows us to continue to fight pet overpopulation and keep more pets safe in our community.”

The nonprofit said it relies on donations to ensure pets are ready for adoption, as well as to care for more than 15,000 sick, injured and abused pets each year at its various facilities.

The Old Town Scottsdale PetSmart at 4380 N. Miller Rd. is one of two locations to adopt pets from the Arizona Humane Society, the other being the organization’s Nina Mason Pulliam South Mountain Campus at 1521 W. Dobbins Road.

“Welcoming a pet into your heart and home is a big decision,” Heidi Fulcher, adoption grants manager at PetSmart Charities, said in the release.

“We want to make certain adoptable animals receive the preventative care they need before making this important transition. It’s our pleasure to continue to support our long-time partners at the Arizona Humane Society as they make the process as seamless as possible.”

We want to hear from you.
