Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey plans to attend inauguration of Joe Biden

PHOENIX – Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said Thursday he plans to attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden in Washington next week.

“I was invited to attend the inauguration; I intend to go to the inauguration,” Ducey told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show. “Of course events on the ground here in Arizona are always going to take priority.

“It’s a historic event. It’s an honor to be invited.”

Biden will be sworn in as the nation’s 46th president on Wednesday.

During the campaign leading up to the November election, the Republican governor stumped for President Donald Trump at the incumbent’s rallies in Arizona.

Biden won Arizona by more than 10,000 votes, claiming the state’s 11 electoral votes and becoming the first Democratic presidential hopeful to take the state since Bill Clinton in 1996.

Ducey didn’t acknowledge Biden’s victory until three weeks after Election Day and a week after all major media outlets had called the race for the challenger.

But he signed off on Arizona’s certified results despite pressure and unfounded claims of election fraud from Trump and his supporters.

“They were misleading people,” Ducey said.
