Bookkeeper accused of embezzling $5.3M from Tucson businesses, HOA in Mexico

PHOENIX — A bookkeeper from Tucson was indicted for allegedly embezzling $5.3 million from two Tucson-area businesses and from a homeowner’s association in Mexico, Attorney General Mark Brnovich said Friday.

Helen Dahlstrom faces multiple charges, including counts of fraudulent schemes, theft, computer tampering, forgery and money laundering after she wrote checks that were made out to cash between September 2013 and July 2020, according to a press release.

She’s also accused of gambling away most of the money at Tucson-area casinos.

Dahlstrom, a longtime bookkeeper for construction companies Lauderbach Builders Supply and L&L Manufactured Components, was also a treasurer for a homeowner’s association in Mexico.

The indictment further alleges that Dahlstrom stole more than $360,000 from the homeowners association and forged statements for them to conceal money she embezzled.
