PHOENIX — The Phoenix Fire Department said dozens of residents would be displaced as a result of an apartment fire on Sunday.

Firefighters were dispatched to the complex near Eighth Avenue and Osborn Road in Phoenix around 11:30 a.m. for reports of heavy smoke coming from the top floor.

The fire spread to multiple other units, and a methodical process ensued.

Two firefighters were hospitalized with minor injuries suffered during the firefight. Both are in stable condition.

The community assistance program worked to ensure shelter access for displaced residents, as it nailed down a definitive number of who was affected.

A city bus was on hand providing temporary respite for the displaced.

Investigators are looking into what caused the fire.
