Another round of monsoon storms expected to hit the Valley this weekend

PHOENIX — It’s shaping up to be another wet weekend in the Valley as monsoon storms are expected to move in and deliver more rain to metro Phoenix.

There is a 20%-30% chance for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday before drying up during the day on Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Monsoon storms are expected to return on Friday night and continue through the weekend, with rain chances starting off at 20% and reaching as high as 40% over the weekend.

Temperatures on Thursday and through the weekend are forecast to hover between 100-105 degrees.

Though most of the storms will be confined to mountain locations under stronger high pressure, activity will begin coming down to lower desert communities as the week continues on and high pressure weakens, according to the NWS.

Storms are expected to pass by south-central Arizona — which includes Maricopa, southern Gila and northern Pinal counties — and will likely bring outflow boundaries with gusty winds and blowing dust.

About 70% of the metro Phoenix area saw rain last weekend, with some parts in Phoenix and Scottsdale seeing more than an inch of rain.

The storms knocked over power lines and disrupted electrical systems near Interstate 17, leaving more than 9,000 residents in the dark for a period of time.
