SAFE Alert canceled after missing Chandler woman found safe in New York

A SAFE Alert issued Friday for a 73-year-old woman with a medical condition who was last seen in Chandler was canceled Monday after she was located, authorities said.

Mary Williams had relocated to New York on her own and was contacted by Chandler police by telephone, the Chandler Police Department said.

Williams said she was safe and did not need police assistance. She had been in contact with her family, her financial fiduciary and her previous group home.

She was last seen around 5:30 a.m. on Friday leaving her group home near Queen Creek and Alma School Road.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental or cognitive disabilities.
