Alleged Family Dollar burglars who stole $315K from stores in Phoenix, Glendale indicted

PHOENIX — A grand jury in Maricopa County has indicted two alleged Family Dollar burglars last week of 13 counts of stealing from various stores in Phoenix and Glendale.

Yosvanys Martinez, 34, and Alexei Alvarez, 40, were arrested in connection with a string of burglaries that stole $315,000, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Nine of their 13 burglaries targeted Family Dollar stores; the other victims were local establishments, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said.

Grand jury indicted accused Family Dollar burglars

Martinez and Alvarez were indicted on two counts of possessing burglary tools, one count of attempt to commit burglary and 10 counts of committing burglary.

They committed their crimes from Feb. 20 and Oct. 1 of this year, prosecutors said.

One local store they allegedly broke into and stole from is a KFC restaurant.

They damaged security devices and broke into safes, prosecutors said. In some cases, they allegedly stole the safes.

The men invaded the stores by cutting power, disabling video surveillance and breaking in through the back doors of the Family Dollar stores, police said.

The accused Family Dollar burglars caused $150,000 in property damage, police said.

Police found $40,000 in cash, security uniforms and burglary tools while executing search warrants the suspects’ residences.

They also found two stolen safes, police said.

Authorities booked Martinez and Alvarez into jail on Oct. 4. The grand jury indicted them on Oct. 9.

The men’s trials are set for March 2025.
