ADOT combats scam text messages with new web resource

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is not only warning customers about scam text messages, they are providing resources to help.

ADOT announced the launch of a new website to help spot red flags that could signal scam text messages that try to extort fraudulent payments for unpaid tickets that don’t exist.

They have also released a podcast episode that outlines the scam that has become more common recently.

Among the main tips, ADOT reminds people of the following tips:

• ADOT doesn’t collect unpaid traffic tickets, parking tickets of tolls
• Arizona doesn’t have tolls
• Don’t click on links in text messages from phone numbers claiming to be ADOT

If you are worried you have outstanding payments with the Motor Vehicle Division, you can check your account at on their website or by visiting a local MVD office.
