2 dead in Peoria collision; speed, impairment possible factors

PHOENIX — Two people died after a collision in Peoria on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Preliminary information said a silver Ford Focus was attempting to turn left onto 87th Avenue when it was hit by a GMC Sierra traveling on Cactus Road around 9:30 a.m., according to the Peoria Police Department.

The driver of the Focus, 86-year-old Marjorie Kussrow, suffered life-threatening injuries and died at a hospital. Her husband, 90-year-old Dale Kussrow, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Sierra was hospitalized with minor injuries.

What caused collision in Peoria?

Investigators believe that speed and impairment could be factors in the crash.

The area was closed for several hours for the investigation.

“We want to thank those citizens that stopped to render aid, and we appreciate everyone’s patience in reference to the road closure,” Peoria Police said. “Our thoughts are with the victims,
their families and everybody who rendered aid during this tragic incident.”
