PHOENIX — One person was killed and nine injured in a five-vehicle crash in west Phoenix on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Around 12:45 p.m., officers responded to the crash site near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road and found multiple victims, the Phoenix Police Department.

Martha Alicia Inzunza Cervantes, 68, was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital, according to police.

In total, nine adults and a child were taken to a nearby hospital, the Phoenix Fire Department said.

Police said that the one of the drivers traveling northbound attempted to pass another driver on 67th Avenue and struck two other vehicles, losing control of their vehicle in the process.

Those collisions caused the at fault vehicle and one of the northbound vehicle to collide with two southbound vehicles, one of which Inzunza Cervantes was a passenger.

Police believe both speed and impairment were part of the cause of the collisions.

Two of the adults were transported in extremely critical condition, including the woman who later died.

The child and two other adults were listed in critical condition.

The other five injured people were in stable condition.

Police closed 67th Avenue from Camelback Road to Hazelwood Street in both directions for the investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by the family to help with funeral costs for Inzunza Cervantes.
