1 person is dead after crash between car, motorcycle in west Phoenix

One person died and two others were injured after a car and motorcycle collided early Saturday morning in west Phoenix, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department identified the man who died as 35-year-old Leon Jimenez.

The Phoenix Fire Department was called to the area of 51st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 1:45 a.m. for the crash.

When crews arrived, they found three patients. Jimenez, who was driving the motorcycle, was beyond lifesaving measures and pronounced dead at the scene. A woman was taken immediately to a hospital in “extremely critical condition.” A man was evaluated and refused to go to the hospital.

Preliminary information indicated that Jimenez was making a left turn when he collided with the car.

The driver of the vehicle showed no signs of impairment, police said.

The Phoenix Police Department took over the scene to investigate.
