Chain reaction collision involving box truck leaves 1 dead in Glendale, police say

A person is dead after a chain reaction crash caused a box truck to cross into oncoming traffic and hit two vehicles in Glendale on Monday afternoon.

Officers responded around 2:25 p.m. to the area of 67th Avenue and Union Hills Drive and found a box truck, minivan and two other vehicles involved in the collision, according to the Glendale Police Department.

The crash started after a SUV driven by an elderly woman made an unsafe lane change going southbound on 67th Avenue and side swiped another car, causing it to side swipe a box truck which lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic where it collided with two vehicles, police said.

The driver of a sedan struck by the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified. Two other drivers were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

67th Avenue will be closed between Union Hills Drive and Behrend drive while detectives investigate the crash.
