Arizona flags are flying at half-staff Thursday to honor worker rights leader Dolores Huerta, who died Wednesday.
Gov. Katie Hobbs ordered all state buildings to lower flags from sunrise to sunset.
Arizona residents, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to join the tribute.
“Arizona and our nation lost a true champion of civil rights today,” Hobbs said in a statement Wednesday. “Dolores Huerta spent her life fighting for farmworkers, working families and basic human dignity. Her courage will forever inspire us. My heart goes out to her family, loved ones and the community mourning her loss.”
Huerta co-founded the United Farm Workers union to improve working conditions in the nation’s fruit and vegetable fields and coined the enduring rallying cry “Sí, se puede!”
She died of cancer at her home in Bakersfield, California, surrounded by family. She was 96.
