Arizona high school closed for day after student found dead on campus

A Marana High School student was found dead on campus Tuesday morning, prompting the school to cancel classes for the day while police investigate, authorities said.

Officers responded just before 7 a.m. after a body was discovered on school grounds, the Marana Police Department said.

Preliminary information indicates the student broke into the campus around 1:30 a.m. and was later discovered by staff, police said.

The death appears to be an isolated incident involving a single person, and there is no danger to the public, according to police.

Police did not release the student’s name, age or cause of death, saying the investigation is still in the preliminary stages.

The Marana Unified School District said all staff members who had reported to work are safe and that the campus is secure.

“We will share additional information as soon as we’re able to, in coordination with law enforcement,” the district said in a message to families and staff.
