Thunderstorms outside Valley bring dust, winds to Phoenix metro area

Parts of the Valley were hit with dust and winds Monday night caused by strong thunderstorms southwest of the Phoenix metro area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) for Phoenix said the outflow from the storms spread lofted dust over the West Valley around 9 p.m.

The weather authority advised residents to expect hazy conditions and 25 to 40 mph winds in the area.

NWS said the thunderstorms were moving northwestward into southwestern Maricopa County around 7:30 p.m.

The Valley was included in a severe thunderstorm watch that was issued for south and central Arizona through midnight. It listed the possibility of 70 mph winds, blowing dust, reduced visibility, frequent lightning, up to an inch of hail and localized heavy rainfall.
