Rain showered parts of metro Phoenix throughout Monday with wind accompanying it in some areas, weather officials said.
Katherine Berislavich, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Phoenix, told KTAR News 92.3 FM the showers would continue throughout the evening, then there would be a lull before activity ramps back up during the overnight hours around 2 to 3 a.m.
“Then that will kind of continue through the morning, but we should start to see it end sometime around 10 [or] 11 a.m. tomorrow and push east out of our area,” Berislavich said.
She noted the rain was mostly affecting areas in the east, west and north Valley. Maricopa County’s Rainfall Data supported that, showing that as of 6:15 p.m. the East Valley received anywhere from 0.04 to 0.28 inches of rain while the West Valley got between 0.04 and 0.08 inches.
However, central Phoenix and Glendale didn’t see any measurable rainfall.
She added that for some people the moisture could be accompanied by gusts of winds.
“The more heavy rainfall and some of the higher wind gusts we’ve seen so far today have been kind of more located in the East Valley,” Berislavich said. “But if you do happen to get more of a heavier shower, with it you could experience some more gusty winds of up to around 30 mph.”
While the weather activity hasn’t been producing much lightning, she noted occasional strikes are possible.
