American Airlines flights grounded briefly nationwide due to IT outage

The airline added that it put a temporary ground stop in place while the issue was being resolved and apologized for an inconvenience to customers.

American Airlines flights nationwide were temporarily grounded Tuesday evening due to an IT outage, according to an advisory from the Federal Aviation Administration.

“A technology issue briefly impacted connectivity for some of our systems on Tuesday evening. Systems are coming back online now and flights are departing again,” American Airlines wrote in a social media post.

The airline added that it put a temporary ground stop in place for 49 minutes while the issue was being resolved and apologized for an inconvenience to customers.

Despite the stop being lifted, there were more than 200 flights delayed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport with a significant number being from American Airlines as of 4:45 p.m.
