A man was hospitalized after a shooting near a shopping center in Mesa on Saturday morning, authorities said.

A man was hospitalized after a shooting near a shopping center in Mesa on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Officers responded to the area of Mesa Riverview Drive and Dobson Road for reports of a gunshot around 10:15 a.m., according to the Mesa Police Department.
When police arrived at the scene they found two men, one of whom was taken to a nearby hospital. However, authorities did not provide any information on his condition or injuries.
Authorities later said the gun was accidentally discharged while the two men were inside a vehicle, and charges for violation of a city code for negligent discharge of a firearm will be submitted.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
There is no threat to the public, police said.
