A 16-year-old boy was arrested after shooting at a security guard outside a venue in Mesa over the weekend, authorities said.

The Mesa Police Department identified the teen as Jesus Daniel Felix Lomeli Figueroa. He was booked into jail on two counts of aggravated assault, attempted first-degree murder, unlawful discharge of a firearm and being a minor in possession of a firearm.

Figueroa’s bond was set at $1 million.

Details on the Mesa shooting the teen was arrested for

On Saturday, Figueroa attempted to enter a private event at a Versalles Reception Hall, near Main Street and Stapley Drive, around 1:05 a.m.

He was turned away and proceeded to pull out a handgun before firing at a security guard, police said.

After firing the shot, the boy ran toward a vehicle. Both the security guard and an off-duty Mesa police officer followed the boy before shooting at him.

The boy fled south across Main Street, where he encountered an on-duty Mesa police patrol officer. Police said the boy then threw the handgun on the ground before being taken into custody.

The boy suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A man who was inside a car associated with the boy was also struck by gunfire, according to authorities. He was also taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neither the off-duty officer nor the security guard was injured, and no bystander injuries were reported.
