Man dead after vehicle-pedestrian collision in west Phoenix
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle near 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street in west Phoenix on Monday morning.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in west Phoenix on Monday morning, authorities said.
The collision occurred just after 5:30 a.m. near 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Responding officers found 58-year-old Melvin R. Johnson unresponsive. Phoenix Fire Department personnel arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Preliminary information suggests that Johnson tried to cross Van Buren Street against the light while walking southbound on 51st Avenue and was struck by a car, police said.
The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
The investigation into the fatal collision is ongoing.
