SAFE Alert canceled for missing 79-year-old Maricopa woman

PHOENIX — Authorities canceled a SAFE Alert on Sunday for a missing 79-year-old woman from Maricopa.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety issued the alert for Miriam Smith-Burks earlier on Sunday around 3:30 p.m.

DPS initially said Smith-Burks was last seen near Lariat Road and Santa Fe Street on Saturday around 6:30 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. 

However, DPS said around 4:30 p.m. Sunday that she was found safe and in good health.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
