Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run collision on McDowell Road in west Phoenix

PHOENIX – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision in west Phoenix on Wednesday night, authorities said.

Officers responded to the incident on McDowell Road near 63rd Avenue shortly after 7:35 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

They found an unresponsive man who was later identified as 44-year-old Michael Arvallo.

Phoenix Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and pronounced Arvallo dead.

The driver involved in the collision left the area, but the vehicle that struck Arvallo was found, unoccupied, at a different location.

“Preliminary information indicates Arvallo was crossing McDowell Road just west of 63rd Avenue, not using a crosswalk, when he was struck by the vehicle,” Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez said in a media advisory.

The investigation is ongoing.
