PHOENIX – Two major freeway construction projects and a music festival will impede traffic in metro Phoenix this weekend.
The Arizona Department of Transportation Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Friday-Monday, Feb. 20-23, cites two areas of concern. (All times below are subject to change.)
🚧 Both directions of I-17 restricted in north Phoenix from 2 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 22);
🚧 Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closed for two weeks starting Friday, Feb. 20.This week's WFTA: https://t.co/qCjF49bfBH pic.twitter.com/eT9sV0CjRn

One is on Interstate 17 between Dixileta Drive and Dove Valley Road in north Phoenix. Areas in both directions within that stretch will be reduced to two or three lanes from 2 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday.
The following two ramp closures are also needed as crews set up a work zone to begin a Loop 303 improvement project:
- Southbound I-17 on-ramp at Dove Valley Road and southbound off-ramp at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive from 2 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
- Northbound I-17 off-ramp at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive from 1 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday.
Motorists can use the I-17/Dove Valley Road interchange and 43rd Avenue as detours during the ramp closures.
Another construction project needs extended ramp closure
The other metro Phoenix freeway restriction, which will last beyond the weekend, is in the East Valley for construction on a Loop 202 Santan Freeway widening project.
The primary southbound Loop 101 Price Freeway ramp to eastbound Loop 202 in Chandler will be closed for approximately two weeks starting at 10 p.m. Friday. The HOV ramp will remain open but be subject to the usual rush-hour passenger restrictions.
Southbound Loop 101 motorists are being advised to exit before reaching the ramp and taking Price Road to reach eastbound Loop 202.
In related restrictions, eastbound Loop 202 will be reduced to two lanes between Price Road and Arizona Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday, and the eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Arizona Avenue will be closed.
Meanwhile, outside the freeway system, Tempe is closing multiple roads south of Tempe Town Lake due to the Extra Innings Festival at Tempe Beach Park. Find details about the Tempe plans here.
