PHOENIX — Drivers who depend on the Loop 101/Loop 202 interchange in the East Valley will need to follow a detour beginning Friday, as it will be closed two weeks in Chandler for repairs due to an ongoing widening project.

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced Thursday the southbound Loop 101 Price Freeway ramp to eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be off limits at 10 p.m. Friday.

Work is being done to both repair and place pavement, according to ADOT.

Those traveling on the southbound Loop 101 are advised to exit onto southbound Price Road before continuing onto eastbound Loop 202, or to exit at Chandler Boulevard and head east prior to using southbound Dobson Road to get onto the Loop 202.

The $200 million project, which has the goal to widen an 8-mile stretch of the Loop 202 between the Loop 101 Price Freeway in Chandler and Val Vista Drive in Gilbert, reached its halfway point in December. It was started in August 2024 has an estimated completion date of spring 2027.

Some of the project’s highlights include:

  • Two new lanes in each direction between Loop 101 and Gilbert Road.
  • One new lane in each direction between Gilbert Road and Val Vista Drive.
  • Reconstruction of the Loop 202 on- and off-ramps by adding walls and widening bridges to accommodate the wider freeway within Chandler and Gilbert.
  • New freeway signs, message boards and drainage systems.
