6 airlines to offer early bag check at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

PHOENIX — Six airlines will start offering a new way for customers to check their bags early at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Wednesday.

The Early Bag Check service is operated by Bags, a Metropolis company, which allows travelers to skip the airline ticket counters and check their luggage before they even arrive at their terminal.

The six airlines that will offer the service for domestic flights are Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and United. It is important to note that the service is not offered for international flights.

How can Arizonans use the Early Bag Check at Phoenix Sky Harbor?

Early Bag Check counters will be located at the Rental Car Center, which is near 16th Street and Buckeye Road, and East Economy Parking, off of 44th Street and Sky Harbor Boulevard.

The counters will be open daily from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., including on holidays.

Depending on the airline, travelers will be able to check up to two bags per person. There is notably no additional fee for the service, but any baggage fees by the airline will still apply.

For the service, bags have to be checked at least 90 minutes before a traveler’s scheduled departure and cannot be checked more than four hours before the flight.

In addition, special items like car seats or sporting equipment do have to be checked at the airline ticket counter.

Passengers will be given a claim check for each bag that they check.
