Gilbert Fire mourns death of Arizona’s 1st arson detection dog, Spring

PHOENIX — Gilbert Fire and Rescue is mourning the loss of Arizona’s first arson detection dog, the department announced Monday.

Spring, the state’s first ATF accelerant detection canine, died at the age of 15, according to a post honoring her.

She served in the department for seven years and worked alongside retired investigator David Zehring.

With Zehring, Spring helped solve “hundreds of arson cases” before she retired to “a life filled with treats, belly rubs and love.”

Spring was escorted with honor to her final journey and passed away surrounded by family.
