Main route from Payson to Phoenix reopens in wake of crash

PHOENIX – Part of the main route from Payson to Phoenix was closed temporarily after a crash Thursday morning, authorities said.

A full closure of southbound State Route 87 was required after to a collision at milepost 221 near Sunflower, south of SR 188, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The highway was shut down near the crash site around 6 a.m. The closure point was eventually moved north to SR 188.

Traffic on SR 87 was allowed through again about an hour later, ADOT said.

No other details about the crash were immediately available.
