Pinal County Sheriff’s Office identifies suspect injured in shooting involving deputy

PHOENIX — A suspect has been released from the hospital after being injured in a shooting involving a sheriff’s deputy south of the Valley on Thursday night, authorities announced Friday.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), the shooting happened near Bisnaga Street and Pinal Avenue in Casa Grande around 11 p.m. on Thursday, after a chase involving deputies and the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

PCSO identified the suspect as 33-year-old Kenneth Etter. He is being booked into the Pinal County Detention Center.

Around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, PCSO was called to assist DPS with a truck that was fleeing from a State Trooper on Pinal Avenue near Rodeo Road. The vehicle was speeding & ran a red light. The vehicle continued to drive recklessly, changing directions on multiple roads in the area.

Details on shooting involving a Pinal County deputy in Casa Grande

PCSO said around 10:30 p.m., deputies were called to assist the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) with a truck that was fleeing from a trooper on Pinal Avenue near Rodeo Road in Casa Grande.

The driver was speeding and ran a red light, according to PCSO, who added that he was also driving recklessly and turned onto multiple roads as he was being pursued by law enforcement.

Just before 11 p.m., in a desert area at Bisnaga Street and Pinal Avenue, just south of where the driver was originally found, the driver allegedly tried to attack a law enforcement vehicle with his car.

This led to a PCSO deputy shooting the driver.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries. PCSO has not released an update on his condition.

No PCSO deputies or DPS troopers suffered serious injuries in this incident, according to PCSO.
