9-year-old boy in critical condition after drowning incident in Buckeye

A 9-year-old child is in critical condition after being found unconscious in a backyard pool.

PHOENIX — A 9-year-old child is in critical condition after being found unconscious in a backyard pool, according to the Buckeye Fire Department.

The Buckeye Fire Department responded to the drowning incident incident at a home in the Sundance Park community just before 4 p.m. The boy was found face down in the water while a family gathering was taking place. Authorities said the boy was unsupervised for approximately one minute.

Care was provided before the boy was transported to Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Avondale Campus, where he remains in critical condition.

While the boy was breathing, authorities said he required advanced medical care.

Odd story, by the age of nine one could reasonably expect a child to know how to swim or at least be wise enough to avoid the water if unable to swim.
Hopefully KTAR's crack team of cutting edge journalist will cut and paste another press release with more details.
