The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) said the freeway closed at about 6:30 p.m. near Priest Drive in Tempe due to the crash, which happened at milepost five.

The freeway reopened at about 9 p.m., just about 2 1/2 hours after the closure went into effect.

No details have been released about the crash, but a picture posted on X by ADOT showed that it involved multiple cars.
