Pedestrian dead after being hit while reportedly crossing in middle of road in west Phoenix

A pedestrian is dead after being hit while reportedly crossing the street in the middle of the road on Friday night, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A pedestrian is dead after being hit while reportedly crossing the street on Friday night, authorities said.

The collision took place around 9:35 p.m. near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

When officers arrived on scene they found a man in the roadway and a pickup truck stopped nearby.

The fire department treated the man and took him to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

Officers evaluated the driver of the pickup and determined there were signs of impairment.

Preliminary information suggested that the pickup was heading southbound on 27th Avenue when it collided with the pedestrian who was crossing the road outside of a crosswalk.

The driver was processed for DUI then released.

No other information was provided.

Detectives are investigating the fatal collision.
