Funeral arrangements, procession set for fallen Apache Junction police officer

PHOENIX – Funeral arrangements and a procession for fallen Apache Junction Police Officer Gabriel Facio have been set.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Central Christian Church at 933 N. Lindsay Road in Mesa.

The service will be open to the public, with limited seating available on a first-come, first-served basis and overflow accommodations.

It will be preceded by procession to honor Facio. The public is encouraged to line the sidewalks along the route, which starts at the Apache Junction Police Department at Idaho Road and Superstition Boulevard at 7:45 a.m.

The procession will travel west on Superstition Boulevard, which becomes University Drive, and end at Sossaman Road in Mesa.

Facio, a three-year veteran of the department, was shot in the face while responding to a call on June 2 and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

He is survived by his wife, two children and a grandchild.

The Apache Junction Police Department is holding a barbecue fundraiser to honor and support Facio’s family Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Apache Junction High School. Donations also can be made online.
