Suspect detained in stabbing in central Phoenix

PHOENIX — A suspect has been detained in connection to a stabbing that occurred Monday morning near Interstate 17 in central Phoenix, authorities said.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Officers responded to a Phoenix Fire Station, located at 5019 N. 23rd Ave., around 7 a.m. for a stabbing call.

It was learned that a man had reportedly walked into the fire station asking for help and firefighters treated his visible stab wounds before he was transported to the hospital.

Police then began investigating and obtained a photo of a possible suspect after allegedly being given a video of the incident by a witness.

Officers searched the surrounding neighborhood, located and detained a suspect they believe was related to the stabbing. Police said a possible crime scene was secured.

This incident is an active police situation.
