PHOENIX — Southbound Interstate I-17 near Black Canyon City was backed up about six miles due to a crash on Sunday, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 1:15 p.m. at milepost 238 on Sunday, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced.

Both southbound lanes have reopened, but traffic was still moving slowly on the shoulder as of 4:38 p.m.

ADOT advised drivers in the area to take State Route 260 to Payson and then southbound State Route 87 to reach the East Valley.

As an alternative detour, drivers can also take westbound State Route 169 to Dewey, westbound State Route 69 to southbound State Route 89 to Prescott and southbound US 93 to reach the West Valley.
