A portion of State Route 87 was closed temporarily after a collision north of Mesa on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

PHOENIX – A portion of State Route 87 was closed temporarily after a collision north of Mesa on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Southbound SR 87, aka the Beeline Highway, was closed at Gilbert Road after the crash near Mesa Drive, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Traffic started getting through again before 10 a.m., about two hours after the closure was implemented.

According to ABC15, at least one person died in the the crash, which involved three vehicles, one of which wound up in a canal. The incident also sparked a brush fire that crews extinguished.
