Maricopa County opens more COVID testing sites to meet demand

PHOENIX — Maricopa County has opened up more free COVID community testing sites across metro Phoenix in response to an increase in demand.

Four new sites are available, including one at Ak-Chin Pavilion, located at 83rd Avenue between Thomas and McDowell roads, that is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day for PCR testing.

The county has also worked with its vendors to open PCR testing sites in Tolleson, Scottsdale and Gilbert, according to a Wednesday press release.

The site at Tolleson Veterans Park will be open daily.

A Scottsdale Community College location will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, while one at Mesquite High School will be open on Saturdays and Sundays.

“Many, many partners have stepped up to offer testing throughout the Valley,” Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine, medical director for disease control at the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, said.

“Right now, with so much need, the best approach is standing up fixed sites for a short amount of time to get more people tested as quickly as possible.”

Maricopa County has also been offering ongoing testing events on Fridays.

The Murphy Education Center in south Phoenix hosts testing every Friday in February. The St. Vincent de Paul School in west Phoenix has testing events the first two Fridays in February.
