Crews pour 2,000 tons of concrete for I-10 Broadway Curve project in metro Phoenix

PHOENIX — Crews continue to make progress on the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve project, pouring 2,000 tons of concrete in metro Phoenix over the weekend for a bridge foundation.

The 11-hour process was a critical step for the foundation supporting a new Broadway Road bridge that is being constructed over the freeway.

The step created a bridge footing, which is a large concrete slab that helps in the support and weight distribution of the bridge.

The bridge is one of several that will be replaced or widened as part of the project, which will cover 11 miles between the Interstate 17 “Split” and Loop 202 San Tan and South Mountain freeways.

More than 300,000 vehicles travel through the Broadway Curve on an average work day and the project will add lanes and make other improvements.

The entire project is being funded by a half-cent sales tax in the county approved by voters in 2004.
