Here’s what to expect from President Trump’s visit to Yuma

PHOENIX – President Donald Trump headed back to Arizona on Tuesday, where he plans to deliver remarks on immigration in Yuma.

Trump landed in Yuma at about 1:3o p.m. for the campaign event, according to the White House pool report.

It’s the president’s second campaign trip to the border town since June and third to the state during the coronavirus pandemic.

He is expected to talk about Democratic challenger Joe Biden’s record on immigration and border security.

Those issues were a key to Trump capturing the state in 2016 but “the world has changed a lot since then,” political analyst Emily Ryan of CopperState Consulting told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

“I don’t know that that’s top of mind for most Arizonans, but he would love to make it top of mind for us.”

Arizona isn’t the only swing state Trump is traveling to this week. He hosted events Monday in Wisconsin, where Milwaukee hosted the opening night of the virtual Democratic National Convention, and Minnesota.

He will start his Tuesday trip in Iowa.

Trump’s visit to Yuma in June included a tour of the border wall and a roundtable discussion with local leaders and community members.

Gov. Doug Ducey will be present at the campaign stop, according to Ducey spokesman Patrick Ptak.

So will U.S. Sen. Martha McSally of Arizona, who is up for election in November.

U.S. Reps. Debbie Lesko, Paul Gosar and Andy Biggs of Arizona, along with Arizona GOP Chair Kelli Ward, will also join Trump at the campaign stop.

Vice President Mike Pence was in Arizona last week, visiting Mesa and Tucson.

An OH Predictive Insights poll released last week found Biden up 49%-45%, but it’s the third consecutive poll the Republican incumbent has whittled down the difference.

In a similar poll in July, Biden was ahead 49%-44%. In May, he led 50%-43%.

Trump is scheduled to arrive in Yuma around 1:10 p.m. Arizona time. KTAR News will carry Trump’s remarks live at 2:15 p.m.
