PHOENIX – A Valley doctor is among the group of people that are leaving a cruise ship in Japan that’s been quarantined for the coronavirus.

Dr. Sommer Gunia, a Scottsdale surgeon, and her husband are among the 3,700 people stuck on aboard the Diamond Princess in Yokohama Harbor.

“We were supposed to get off the ship at 9 o’clock, but it’s now midnight,” Gunia said in a video to KTAR News 92.3 FM. “We’re all here with our bags and we’re hopeful.”

Gunia later said in a text message that they made it to a bus to go to the airport.

“It is very strange to us that they have us sitting so closed together and we aren’t even moving yet,” Gunia said in a text message.

“We are all happy to come back to USA, but we are all tired and sick of just waiting around.”

Gunia and her husband are among approximately 380 Americans that were on the cruise ship.

We want to hear from you.
