A deadly road rage shooting, a new grocery store on the Navajo Nation and a Mesa attorney suspended for misconduct.

Suspect arrested in Phoenix road rage shooting that killed 10-year-old girl

A suspect in an apparent road rage shooting that left a 10-year-old girl dead and her father seriously injured was arrested, authorities announced Friday.

Joshua Gonzalez, 20, was arrested on Thursday in connection to the murder of 10-year-old Summer Brown.

Summer was shot Wednesday in the family’s driveway while she, her father, mother and sister sat in their car.

Police have said the events leading up to the killing started after the suspect believed the family’s car had cut him off in traffic.

ABC15 reported the incident was the seventh road-rage related crime of the year and second fatality.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Director Frank Milstead said drivers who suspect they might have angered someone should attempt to defuse the situation with a simple apology.

Bashas’ holds grand opening for Navajo Nation grocery store

Valley-based grocery chain Bashas’ opened its first newly built store in a decade this week in a Navajo Nation community in eastern Arizona.

The Bashas’ Diné Market in Sanders, a town off Interstate 40, about 20 miles from the New Mexico border, held a grand opening ceremony Wednesday.

Representatives of the Navajo Nation, including President Jonathan Nez, and the Basha family appeared at the daylong celebration.

Diné Market is the company’s brand for grocery stores on Arizona’s Native American reservations. They carry products that serve the needs of Navajo customers and have signage using the native language.

After getting client pregnant, Mesa attorney suspended for 2 years

A Mesa attorney was suspended from practicing law for two years after getting a client pregnant, the State Bar of Arizona said Thursday.

Kent M. Nicholas engaged in a sexual relationship while representing a client who was being charged for identity theft, shoplifting and probation revocation, according to a press release.

The client gave birth to their child in 2015, but Nicholas, who is married, denied being the father until a 2017 paternity test proved otherwise.

Nicholas was also ordered to reimburse the bar for the almost $2,500 it spent investigating him.

55-year-old woman in Tucson accused of murdering grandchildren

A 55-year-old woman in southern Arizona was arrested on Friday for allegedly shooting and killing her two 8-year-old grandchildren.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Dorothy Flood is facing two counts of first-degree murder after twin boys Jaden and Jordan Webb were found shot dead in a Tucson home.

She is being held in the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.

Fire officials responded to a medical call in the area of Kain Avenue and Ruthrauff Road around 2 p.m. Thursday.

They found a woman who had symptoms of an apparent overdose and the boys, who were pronounced dead on the scene.
