After getting client pregnant, Mesa attorney suspended for 2 years

Mesa attorney Kent M. Nicholas of Mesa has been suspended for two years following the admittance of fathering a client's child.

PHOENIX — A Mesa attorney was suspended from practicing law for two years after getting a client pregnant, the State Bar of Arizona said Thursday.

Kent M. Nicholas engaged in a sexual relationship while representing a client who was being charged for identity theft, shoplifting and probation revocation, according to a press release.

The client gave birth to their child in 2015, but Nicholas, who is married, denied being the father until a 2017 paternity test proved otherwise.

Nicholas was also ordered to reimburse the bar for the $2,480.55 it spent investigating him.

He was already on probation for slapping an incarcerated client who was handcuffed to a table.

Nicholas’ suspension begins 60 days after the order was issued on March 13.
