Arizona group searching for 7,000 cybersecurity professionals

PHOENIX — A new Arizona group wants you to know: Your cybersecurity skills are desperately needed.

The Arizona Statewide Cyber Workforce Consortium is searching for at least 7,000 new cybersecurity professionals. Group member Dr. Jon Haass is the director of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Cyber Program in Prescott. He said even entry-level cybersecurity professionals can do very well.

“An entry-level person might make as much as $60,000, which is well above the national median,” he said. “The challenge is, everyone in the country needs them.”

Everyone, Haass said, is literally everyone.

“Every company, ranging from Safeway and PetSmart, all the way to Wells Fargo and Charles Schwab, are in need of cybersecurity professionals,” he said. “The threats today are increasing.”

A bachelor’s in cybersecurity and related fields can be obtained from many schools. Applicants need skills in math, computer science and writing (among other things).
