Normal Sky Harbor Airport operations resume after partial evacuation

PHOENIX – Operations returned to normal Tuesday afternoon at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport after a precautionary evacuation was lifted.
After the situation was resolved, Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department said in an email that a “suspicious” piece of luggage had passed through one of the Terminal 4 security checkpoints at around 3:15 p.m.
Parts of the terminal were evacuated and the B, C and D checkpoints were closed. Restrictions were also placed on PHX Sky Train service.
Bomb squad investigators determined that the item was safe, and the airport began to resume normal operations at around 4:30 p.m.
UPDATE: The situation at Terminal 4 has been resolved. Operations are starting to return to normal. The B, C, and D Security Checkpoints are in the process of being re-opened. The PHX Sky Train is also resuming operations at Terminal 4, and all roadways have re-opened.

An airport spokesperson said all security checkpoints were reopened. The PHX Sky Train also resumed full service at Terminal 4, and roadways were reopened.
During the restrictions, buses were made available to Terminal 4 passengers.
