PHOENIX – The West Valley will be getting a new taste of Chicago.
Portillo’s announced plans Wednesday to move into Avondale this year, the chain’s third metro Phoenix standalone eatery and first on the west side.
The Illinois company already has restaurants in Tempe and Scottsdale, and last year it started operating a stand at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The new location will be at the Park 10 development off Interstate 10 at 107th Avenue.

It will have a diner-themed interior, outdoor seating and a double drive-thru lane, delivery will be available.
No target opening date was announced.
Portillo’s is known for its hot dogs and other Chicago-style dishes, as well as sweet treats such as the cake shake — a chocolate shake blended with a slice of chocolate cake.
The restaurant debuted humbly in 1963 as The Dog House in a 6-by-12-foot trailer in Villa Park, Illinois. Four years later, founder Dick Portillo moved his business into larger space and adopted the Portillo’s moniker.
The chain’s first location outside Illinois opened in California in 2005, and Portillo’s entered the Arizona market in 2013.
